At Altimira, we offer a diverse range of elective classes that encourage students to explore their interests, develop new skills, and grow as individuals. Our electives provide a platform for students to engage in hands-on learning, build practical skills, and cultivate personal growth, all while preparing for future success.
Maker Lab
In Maker Lab, students have a chance to practice turning their ideas into reality with trial, and error, and the engineering design process. We create projects using recycled/repurposed materials, craft supplies, code, circuits, and digitally fabricated products made from a 3D printer, laser cutter, vinyl cutter, and desktop CNC mill. Students build technical skills and habits of mind like perseverance as they work through their projects.

Leadership
This class is for students willing to devote time and energy to student activities and student/staff recognition programs that build unity and relationships among our student body (Rallies, Lunchtime Activities, Dances, Purple Pinkie, etc.). Students will develop skills in communication, time management, goal setting, interpersonal relations, public relations, and organization. Leadership students also make a commitment to serve the community with 5 hours of community service per trimester.
Culinary/Farm to Table
The Culinary Farm-to-Table elective at Altimira Middle School utilizes the school garden and kitchen to provide hands-on learning experiences. Students explore the journey of food from farm to table while gaining culinary and gardening skills, along with insights into sustainability and healthy eating. This class enriches students' lives by fostering connections with their families, community, and environment.
