Culinary Farm-to-Table Program

Course Overview

The Culinary Farm- to-Table elective class at Altimira  Middle School uses our school garden and kitchen to teach hands-on skills and academic content. Through this class, students discover the journey of food from the farm to the table while learning culinary  and gardening skills, as well as sustainability and healthy eating. The skills, knowledge and behaviors learned help enrich our student’s lives, while promoting a deeper connection with their families, community and environment.

Course Goals

  • Learn basic cooking techniques and kitchen safety
  • Understand where food comes from by growing fruits, vegetables and herbs.
  • Explore sustainable farming and its impact on the environment.
  • Develop teamwork and problem-solving skills through collaborative cooking and gardening projects.
