Welcome to Altimira’s Dual Immersion (DI) 6-8 Program page! This unique bilingual program fosters academic excellence, bilingualism, and multicultural understanding.
Program for the DI Students
Middle School DI Program Students need a minimum of 8 years to fully realize the advantages of their Dual Language Immersion schooling.The DI program is a nine-year commitment (K-8) that prepares students to receive the Seal of Biliteracy in High School. As DI students advance through the grade levels, they are highly encouraged to continue their pathway from 5th grade into their DI middle school program and meet the goals set out by the designers. At the middle school level, students work to advance their reading, writing, speaking and grammar skills in Spanish. English Learners are able to close the performance gap by 8th grade if they fully participate in the coursework at this level. The DI middle school program offers students 25% of their instructional day exclusively in Spanish (Spanish Language Arts, History) the rest of their day in English (Math, English Language Arts, Science and electives.)

SVUSD Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program is a K-8 pathway, available to students, where they are immersed in another language from their native language. So native English and native Spanish speaking students are learning another language alongside each other. Our DLI pathway subscribes to three common goals: biliteracy, bilingualism, and biculturalism.
Altimira Middle School Promotion Awards
Seal of Biliteracy Pathway Award: Each year, we will recognize all Dual Immersion students who have successfully completed 3 years of Spanish History and Spanish Language Arts, as well as English Language Arts (Special Ed students may only include Spanish Language Arts), with an average of at least a 2.0 in those classes. Galardón de la ruta al Sello de Alfabetización Bilingüe: Cada año reconoceremos a todos los estudiantes de Inmersión Dual que hayan completado exitosamente 3 años de Historia en Español y Lengua y Literatura en Español así como Lengua y Literatura en Inglés (los estudiantes de Educación Especial pueden incluir solamente Lengua y Literatura en Español) con un promedio de al menos 2.0 en esas clases. Dual Immersion Excellence Award: This award is given to students who earned 80% or more on the Spanish Language Arts Writing Assessment and scored at or above grade level on the Spanish Star E exam. They will also need to earn a 3.5 or higher GPA in Spanish History and Spanish Language Arts in 6, 7 and 8th grades.
Galardón a la excelencia en Inmersión Dual: Este galardón se otorga a los estudiantes que obtuvieron un 80% o más en la Evaluación de Escritura de Lengua y Literatura en Español y obtuvieron un puntaje igual o superior al nivel de grado en el examen Star E de Español. También tendrán que obtener un GPA de 3.5 o más en Estudios Sociales en Español y Lengua y Literatura en Español en 6º, 7º y 8º grados.
Altimira Dual Immersion Program Award: This award is given to two students who have made the most significant improvement and effort in Spanish Language Proficiency.
